Member Spotlight: Charles Edwards
In the coming months we’ll highlight members of our Southminster
family, sharing a little about how they spend their days, what they enjoy, and
what Southminster means to them. We hope it helps you put a story to a
familiar face on Sunday morning.

Get to Know Charles Edwards
How long have you been a member of Southminster?
50 years
How do you occupy your days?
Watching too much TV, working around my house, staying in phone and personal
contact with my friends and family, following sports, reading, and surfing on my
laptop. I am trying to go to my gym on a more regular basis presently, but not doing
very well fulfilling that goal.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
I really enjoy reading on different topics. I have interests in psychology, personal
motivation and leadership, sports, biographies, and politics. Additionally, I like to
read Christian authors’ views on current topics that I find puzzling. I enjoy listening to music from the seventies (I know that dates me). When I have the money, I like to travel and see major league baseball games. A lot of times I just enjoy walking.
How are you involved in the local community?
Previously, I have volunteered my time with some local charities. I hope to do more
in the future.
What do you love about Southminster?
I love the people and staff of Southminster. The “old saying” is true that the people
are the church. We are blessed at Southminster to have so many caring people that are willing to help and “lend an ear” to members and the community at large. The members are friendly and accepting. When you come to a Southminster service you know you will
receive a meaningful Christian message from the pulpit and inspiring music from the choir and musicians. You can just be yourself at Southminster.
How are you involved at Southminster?
I have served on session and various committees at the church in the past. Presently, I am an usher at the 10:30AM service. I attend Sharon and John Schuler’s Bible study group on Thursdays, which is informative.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I really appreciate the acceptance and support I have received over the years from
the people and staff of Southminster.
