Youth
The intentions of Youth Ministry at Southminster Presbyterian Church are to help all youth feel welcome as children of God and loved by their church family.
Together we study scripture, ask big questions, play games, spend time in prayer and just enjoy being with each other.

Sundays
Sunday School
Middle and High school students meet every Sunday morning during the school year for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. Together they study the scripture passage of the day, and discuss how it is applicable to our lives today. The class is led by Program Director, Robert Newman. Youth Sunday school meets in the Youth Classroom, located behind the Sanctuary.
Youth Group
Youth also meet on Sunday nights with the Birmingham Youth Group (BYG) for a time of fellowship, prayer, study, and sharing a meal together. Meetings are held from 4-6pm, and dinner is provided. Occasionally BYG will meet off-site for various fellowship and mission activities. BYG consists of youth from five PC(USA) churches: Southminster, First, Edgewood, Oakmont Chapel and Cahaba Springs. BYG meetings rotate quarterly between Southminster and Edgewood. BYG offers our youth the chance to grow their faith with peers from all across Birmingham. The 2025-2026 theme is "Holy Curiosity!" Youth group will kickoff on September 14th at Southminster!

Wednesdays
Wednesday nights are a time for our youth to enjoy fellowship and one another’s company! Youth join our church family for dinner at 5:30pm. After dinner youth either participate in that night’s program, or head to the Youth Room for their Faith and Film series. Youth and leaders will watch and discuss various movies throughout the year. This time is also used to prepare for Jazz Vespers, and Bright Sunday, our youth-led worship services.
Summer Ministry
Summer youth ministry at Southminster is a fun time filled with service and trips to conferences! Our summer schedule includes activities such as:
Youth Nights and Mission Days: Each month we meet for dinner and games in the Backdoor for Youth Nights, and will travel to local mission partners to complete service projects for Mission Days.
Vacation Bible School: Each summer youth volunteer to help lead our Vacation Bible School Program, and then, on the last day we all go out to lunch to celebrate a fun week!
Montreat Conferences: Each July our youth participate in two weeks of Montreat Youth Conferences with youth from around the country! Our 9th-12th graders attend the high school conference in Montreat, NC, and then a week later our 6th-8th graders attend the middle school conference in Maryville, TN. Montreat is a highlight of our summers each year!
