Our July was full of Montreat Youth Conferences for our middle and high schoolers! Read on to hear more about their experiences!
God's Light Shines
This year we partnered with our fellow BYG churches and Peachtree City Presbyterian Church to take 29 youth and adults to the Montreat Youth Conference! The theme of this year's high school conference was "Light My Path!" Through keynote, small group, recreation and worship our young people explored how God's light shines in our lives, and how we can take that light and share it with others. Through stories such as the story of creation, the conversion of Saul, Ruth and Naomi, and the Transfiguration, our young people grew in their faith and knowledge that God is lighting our path! Other highlights of the trip included hiking Lookout Mountain, rock hopping in Flat Creek, and completing a service project to help Montreat continue to rebuild from the effects of Hurricane Helene. It was a great trip!
A Wonder Full Summer
The theme of this year’s Montreat Middle School Conference was “Wonderful Full”. The chorus of the conference theme song tells the story. “O God you are so wonderful, and I am full of wonder too!” We partnered with Independent Presbyterian to take a group to Maryville College for this year’s conference. Our young people heard scripture readings that not only told the wonders of God, the miracles of Jesus, but how people, like them, are left full of wonder when we consider God’s love. The prophet Jeremiah thought he was too young, but God’s word gave him direction and led him to a life of wonder. The crowded household where Jesus was teaching was left in awe as a man was lowered through a hole made in the ceiling by committed and passionate friends. The wedding celebration continued and the workers were astonished that the best wine was saved for last. Signs of God’s loving work are all around us. Our response to wonder and awe are important to the work of God. Our young people left the conference with eyes open to the work of God’s hand and hearts ready to participate in the wonder if brings.
