WEDDINGS
Both the theology and polity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) recognizes marriage as a sacred event. As stated in the Wedding Guidelines section of Southminster's Organization Manual:
"Marriage is more than just two people publicly coming together. In the church it is an act of God. When a couple express their desire for their union to be solemnized by a church wedding, the church immediately becomes a party to the wedding and a participant in the planning process. In the Presbyterian Church, the Session is responsible for the policy relating to weddings."
When a request is made for our pastor to officiate a wedding, the pastor and the Session work together to review that request and work with the couple to ensure all that happens will maintain the standards set in the PC(USA)'s Directory for Worship.
For further information on particular guidelines (including scheduling procedures and fees) for weddings at Southminster please see the Wedding Guidelines section from Southminster's Organizational Manual below.
