CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES

Children:

We are all children of God! Our youngest members help us remember this truth as they engage with each other, with their church family, and with God every time our doors are open!

We have a lively and faithful group of children here at Southminster. Children of all ages participate in Sunday School and Worship, and they are actively included in all of the various activities of the church. Children are invited to come and fellowship with all members of our church family!

There are also special activities for children throughout the year, such as Vacation Bible School, Children’s Worship, and the Live Nativity. Each year, on Bright Sunday, our children are invited to lead us in worship!

Special community events at which children are welcome include Rise Against Hunger, the Highland Games, the Southminster Scamper and the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

A nursery is available Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and for other church-wide meetings and activities as needed and scheduled.

And of course, Southminster Day School continues to be a ministry to children in our community, providing a safe and nurturing environment for education and growth in a Christian setting.

Youth:

The intentions of Youth Ministry at Southminster Presbyterian Church are to help all youth feel welcome as children of God and to equip them to live as disciples of Christ.

We achieve these intentions through youth and adult volunteers working in partnership in worship, recreation, mission, Bible study and other types of activities.

Middle and High school students meet every Sunday morning during the school year for Sunday School (9:15am-10:15am).

Youth also meet on Sunday nights with the Birmingham Youth Group (BYG) for a time of fellowship, prayer, study, and sharing a meal together. BYG rotates monthly between Southminster, Shades Valley Presbyterian, Oakmont Chapel, Edgewood Presbyterian, and First Presbyterian. BYG offers our youth the chance to grow their faith with peers from all across Birmingham.

Youth also participate in mission and service projects, as well as attending Presbytery retreats throughout the year. The middle school youth have the opportunity in the summer to attend the Montreat Middle School Conference, and the high-school youth attend the Montreat Youth Conference. The youth are very active in the life of the church, including participating in Sunday School, worship, mission, and Ministry Units of our Session.

ALL Youth and their families are encouraged to include Youth Ministry events in their weekly schedules.  Sunday Worship and Sunday School, Wednesday Night Choir and Small Group, and Sunday night Youth Fellowship are our primary program times, but several special events can happen on any day of the week or weekend!
